This past Saturday, the communities of Bladensburg, Colmar Manor, Cottage City and Edmonston, held its annual Port Towns Day at Bladensburg Waterfront Park. The Port Towns is coalition of four towns in Prince George’s County that border Washington, DC. These municipalities are all linked together by one amazing natural resource – the Anacostia River! For 18 years, Port Towns Day has been the neighborhood’s big party, where they show off to the entire county and the adjacent Washington, DC.
This year’s Port Towns Day focused on Healthy Living. Over the summer, the individual town councils adopted a healthy eating policy to encourage good health amongst their constituency. Food vendors were encouraged to provide healthy meal options and were provided with Healthy Eating certificates. The Port Towns Community Health Partnership is a collaboration of community residents, organizations and funders, all working together to support healthy living in the Port Towns. Keeping with the this year’s theme, the PTCHP raffled away a 2-Month Membership to LA Fitness, a season long membership of Eco City Farms CSA, a $100 Gift Card to Modell’s, and a brand-new bicycle from Arrow Bicycle to attendees who completed the Port Towns Health Survey.
The day featured live music, cooking demonstrations, Zumba, arts & crafts, games, rock climbing and a lot more. Head over to End Time Harvest Ministries’ Google+ page to see the pictures from the day.
