Today is the first day of Kwanzaa, a week-long celebration of recognizing African and African-American heritage and traditions. Kwanzaa was created by Maulana Karenga and In 1966, the first one was celebrated. The name Kwanzaa derives from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning first fruits of the harvest.
This year The Greensboro Kwanzaa Collective, will present a week-long Kwanzaa celebration in Greensboro. This is the first ever week-long Kwanzaa celebration in the city of Greensboro.
